Iconic American photographer & Vogue war correspondent in France during World War II<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

I was inspired by Anne Boyd\u2019s excellent\u00a0Substack article on Lee Miller below to drive down through the back roads, the golden autumnal leaves, and the sunshine of Kent and East Sussex, to visit the photographic exhibition\u00a0Lee and Lee<\/strong> at Farleys House and Gallery, Muddles Green, Chiddingly last Friday. It was a two-hour drive there and back\u2014<\/span>but it was worth it.<\/p>\n

The following day, I attended the film LEE with my husband at the Gulbenkian Theatre, University of Kent, Canterbury.<\/p>\n

The film, directed by Ellen Kuras, stars Kate Winslet as Lee, along with Andy Samberg (David Scherman), Alexandra Skarsgard (Roland Penrose), Marion Cotillard (Solange D\u2019Ayen), Andrea Riseborough (Audrey Withers), and Josh O\u2019Connor (Antony Penrose).<\/p>\n

Whereas Anne Boyd\u2019s article focuses on Lee Miller\u2019s relationship with Man Ray in Paris and her personal review of the bio fictional novel The Age of Light<\/strong>\u00a0by Whitney Scharer, I was most inspired by her war correspondent photography, writing and activity in France during the Second World War in 1944 – 1945.<\/strong> And this is what I wish to write about and share with you today.<\/p>\n
