In all of the years that I\u2019ve lived in France and most specifically in Provence, I have been told that Toulon is not really worth visiting.\u00a0 Well, having been there recently, I am here to say that this is not true at all.\u00a0 I was very pleasantly surprised by the beauty and diversity of this seaside city.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Market<\/h2>\n<\/div>
<\/span><\/div>

Toulon has one of the biggest markets I have ever seen.\u00a0 The stalls go on for blocks and if you\u2019re able to cook your own food, this is the place to go for all of your local ingredients.\u00a0 There\u2019s everything and it\u2019s all from the area.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t miss it!\u00a0 It\u2019s closed on Monday but opens every other day from 8-12:30.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>

Portside<\/h2>\n

Not only is it absolutely beautiful to walk along the port admiring the Mediterranean Sea but you will also find lots of cafes and restaurants where you can soak up the sun and enjoy some local dishes.<\/p>\n

I ate at Le Bistrot du Port<\/a> and it was very good.\u00a0 There\u2019s nothing like a long leisurely lunch by the sea.\u00a0 You will not be disappointed.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The Heart of Toulon – the must-visit French city<\/h2>\n

After visiting the port, I wandered away from the sea and crossed the main boulevard.\u00a0 I would zig-zag your way through with two goals in mind.\u00a0 Les Halles de Toulon\u00a0 and la Place de la Libert\u00e9.<\/p>\n

As you make your way to Les Halles, you will pass by the big Cathedral de Notre Dame de la Seds,\u00a0 Les Halles is a newly renovated space that is jam-packed with one beautiful food stall after another.\u00a0 It\u2019s all gourmet!\u00a0 You will be enchanted by the Art Deco setting and it is truly a feast for the eyes.\u00a0 This market is clearly a popular place with the locals and it is a great place to stop and eat or simply pick up something to bring back with you.<\/p>\n

I, of course, was admiring the canolli ( Italian, yes,\u00a0 but\u2026..).<\/p>\n<\/div>

After les Halles, walk toward the Place de la Liberte.\u00a0 There is the most beautiful fountain and I couldn\u2019t help but think of the Trevi fountain in Rome.<\/p>\n

The Fountaine de la Federation<\/strong> was placed in the square in 1890.\u00a0\u00a0 It is absolutely beautiful and should not be missed.<\/p>\n<\/div>

From the Place de la Liberte<\/strong>, I\u2019d keep walking toward the left and just wander through the beautiful streets.<\/p>\n<\/div>

There are a lot of cool bars and it is evident that this is a haven for student life.\u00a0 I enjoyed seeing the funky little shops and the vibe of a modern city.<\/p>\n<\/div>

I would absolutely consider Toulon if you’re in this area.\u00a0 Yes, it\u2019s a bigger city but it has so much to offer.\u00a0 I will definitely be going back.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Final tip\u2026\u2026.want to go to the beach?\u00a0 Head to Le Mourillon.\u00a0 Go all the way to the left, at the point and you will find a nice park to walk along, some beach bars… and the beach!\u00a0 Another lovely spot.\u00a0 Toulon has everything.<\/p>\n<\/div>
